Bergen, Initial Thoughts

We've settled here in Bergen, and had a couple days to get oriented.  We're headed out of town tomorrow for a driving trip to Flam (a small town at the end of a Fjord, with a fancy train).  Yesterday and today was all about Bergen.  We have effectively been transported to the polar opposite of our Iceland journey.  Whereas Iceland was all about youth, open expanses, and sparse crowds; Bergen is very old, and very crowded - 300 year old, 3 story vibrantly colored buildings packed in to a small area with tiny cobbled streets, lorded over by steep forested granite cliffs. It's quite picturesque.

Our apartment is in the thick of the action in the oldest part of town within spitting distance of where everyone instinctively flocks like the Salmon of Capistrano.  Imagine living across the way from Pier 39 & Fisherman's Wharf at the base of Lombard Street. At times, I wonder if there are actually any locals anywhere, and given we speak entirely one language, it's hard to know when people are speaking Norwegian or German, or Dutch, or Swahili for that matter.  While we still have some testing to do, I am beginning to think we're more suburban folks, and may need to consider this as we plot out the next wave of accommodations.

We spent most of today atop the cliff above Bergen at a park (Floyen) accessed by a funicular (a "train" pulled up a super steep hill by a cable).  Views are stunning, did some canoeing, and spent time at an obstacle type playground.  Good times.

Contrary to what our AirBnB host says, as far as I am concerned, Bergen has the best weather on the planet - mid sixties, blue skies, and sunny for 20 hours a day.

Also, owing to the fact that we're a little lazy when it comes to posting pictures, I went ahead and cobbled together a 200+ picture album of Iceland - If you have the patience or desire to see, here is the link: https://goo.gl/photos/rBcwWPHwwoD4LT5k8
