Stockholm, Day 1

These two otherwise nondescript photos show the importance of the simple things in life:

No Jackets!
We're all settled back in to civilization now in the not so quaint town of Stockholm, complete with one of the cleanest, quietest, and smoothest subway systems I have ever ridden. I suppose having endured commuting on BART for the past 10 years sets the lower limit on human conveyance. Not sure what magic they have conjured here, but their people need to have a conversation with our people.

In any case, this week we are staying in a very comfortable flat that is actually someone's permanent home, and they are just gone for a little while.  The wife and mother of two, is apparently Nicole's kindred spirit. The place is furnished and organized in such a way that Nicole feels right at home.

Today also marked the official first day of schooling abroad.  Autumn has been on the computer a bit today, getting started on all of her coursework, and the boys started with a field trip to the grocery store for some math, and a museum for some science.
Standard first day of school photo
Speaking of field trips, we spent the afternoon at the Vasa Museum, dedicated to the display and preservation of a war ship that sunk in the Stockholm harbor in 1628.  It was actually a sad story of how greed and stupidity can lead to absurd outcomes - a ship that took 5 years to build, sailed for about 20 minutes, and sunk in 10 minutes, killing 38 seamen.  Inside the cavernous building sits the actual ship resurrected in 1956 from the bottom of the harbor, and preserved for our viewing pleasure.  Impressive.  Oh, and you wouldn't be surprised to see Captain Jack Sparrow at the helm.

If you zoom in to Bryce's face, I may be forcing a smile....

The floor said so...
 Couple random photos from today:

Is decapitation an acceptable solution for keeping someone quiet?

At breakfast this morning, we sat outside under a canopy.  The rains yesterday pooled above and was ever so slowly seeping through.
